MONDAY
Essentials of Building a Painting
Instructor: Lisa DePinto
This class is well suited for someone wanting to continue to paint with instruction and encouragement or someone aspiring to learn the process of starting and bringing a painting to completion. Discussions and exploration of what inspires as far as subject matter, painting approaches as well as handling of the medium. All painting mediums are welcome. Whether composing a painting from life (still life) or a photograph, the strong basics of composition, drawing, light and dark patterns and color are essential. Class will include demos, discussions of each other's work, masterworks and contemporary painters.

Innovative Approaches to Pen/ink and Watercolor
Instructor: Thomas Trausch Thomas Trausch, a career artist since 1975, works in both oils and watercolor where he is a Master Signature member of TWSA.
Using pen and ink techniques, you will create textures and emphasize the important parts of your work. Bold and beautiful washes in watercolor will be painted to balance the ink line drawings. Combining these 2 mediums creates a pleasing balance between line and color masses. Edge variations as well as value manipulation will be emphasized for greater depth. Open to all students, no need to have taken previous virtual classes – always new material to be covered! Regular challenging assignments are given out. Short supply list.

The Everyday Ceramics class is centered around the idea that everyone will start with what they already know about making pottery, and then advance from there!
If you're new to pottery, we'll cover the basics - centering and throwing on the wheel, coloring, decorating, and firing the pottery, as well as hand-building techniques for a variety of things a wheel might not be needed at all. The primary focus for both types of production are for Everyday Ceramics... you know - things you might use EVERY day - such as food safe functional kitchenware (bowls, cups, mugs, plates) - or for jewelry, organizational containers, displays, and decorations. Simplifying Color
Instructor: Michael Van Zeyl
Open to all levels. Beginners welcome and encouraged! This Color Theory class is designed to help you make informed color decisions, mix color faster and organize your palette better to paint the color you want. You will learn about the Munsell Color System and the three attributes of color; VALUE, CHROMA and HUE as well as the capabilities and properties of paint. You will create the necessary tools to help you develop harmonious paintings including: A value scale and color charts for each hue.

Afternoon Offering:
Oil Painting Techniques & Step-by-Step Processes

Open to all levels, you will practice different paint application techniques to help find your preferred style. Each class will have a lecture, demo and exercise specific to each element of picture making. Learn to loosen up your brushstrokes and become more painterly. Learn composition development with limited value design. Subject reference will be provided for each weeks exercise.

Figurative work is the most challenging and stimulating form of drawing-a great addition to any art portfolio! In this class you will learn to draw the human form from direct observation, beginning with short and working to longer poses, exploring line, tonal value, proportions, personal expression and perspective…all essential to seeing and translating the figure as a whole. All levels of experience are welcome as well as all mediums. Class will include preparation and demonstration. Students are also welcome who wish to transition from drawing to painting, looking for a starting point to painting or just looking to delve deeper into painting. Model fees included with tuition!

Landscape Painting Studio- Grow as a Painter!

What a great way to spend time during these fall evenings - in our beautiful art studio! Explore ways of depicting nature’s beauty in the painting or drawing medium of your choice. This class is open to oil, acrylic, gouache, watercolor, and all drawing media. From realistic to highly interpretive renderings, our beautiful landscape provides inspiration for many ways of depiction in art. Examples of historic and contemporary artworks will be looked at for ideas of style and composition. Exploring Composition Using Dry & Water Media
Instructor: Tatijana Jacenkiw
This is your opportunity to take a deep dive into your art – really exploring the intentional arrangement of visual elements within your works. ALL elements are important - line, shape, color, texture. They are your paintings’ foundation. You choices will guide the viewer's eye and set a mood.
You will be guided through the steps of building your paintings - starting with monochromatic thumbnails, advancing to small, colorful studies. Once you are happy with your studies, we will go on to small finished paintings.
Artists may paint in the medium(s) of their choice:
Dry Media includes soft lead pencils, colored pencil, pastel pencils, soft and hard pastels.
Water Media includes watercolor, gouache and fluid acrylics
Join Tatijana in this exciting class meant to help advance students’ knowledge of composition and build confidence while planning their works.
Short supply list will be provided – but bring what you have to the first class and discuss any supplies you may need to purchase with Tatijana first so you don’t buy anything you won’t be using.

The League is excited to offer workroom space for the art of encaustic painting. In an elevated teaching environment, experienced painters will be able to add dimension and depth in their works with the processes taught in these sessions. This class will encourage creativity through the merging of artistic forms using wax melting techniques. Wax, mixed media, recycling segments will all combine to enable the application of artistic movements and features of colors and themes. This will be an opportunity to not only learn, but to ignite your artistic flame!
