Innovative Approaches to Pen/ink and Watercolor
Instructor: Thomas Trausch Thomas Trausch, a career artist since 1975, works in both oils and watercolor where he is a Master Signature member of TWSA.
Using pen and ink techniques, you will create textures and emphasize the important parts of your work. Bold and beautiful washes in watercolor will be painted to balance the ink line drawings. Combining these 2 mediums creates a pleasing balance between line and color masses. Edge variations as well as value manipulation will be emphasized for greater depth. Learn and practice “Alla Prima” painting or sharpen your drawing skills

All levels welcome! Michael Van Zeyl will be teaching how to work from the live model in a 3 hour session. Individual instruction aimed at sharpening draftsmanship or improving painting skills. We will study from the live model and work on the fundamentals of proportion, construction, and block-in techniques. The Path to Painting Success (Offering two – 5-week sessions)

Open to all levels, we will explore painting techniques from classical masterworks and also learn about more contemporary methods, providing fundamentals that will help each student gravitate to their own personal painting style. This class will empower students to make creative decisions that will launch or refine the development of a unique artistic vision. Students will learn about the essentials of the picture-making process including: composition and design, value structure, color harmony and paint application. Find out how to approach the entire process and select appropriate surfaces to achieve a desired result.

Amazing Soft Pastels: Vibrant colors, easy to blend, easy to layer – all in a small stick! Students will learn how to paint with soft pastels, explore different surfaces, learn a variety of techniques and choose to embrace one or all! We will review composition, color, value, and underpainting techniques. Most importantly, enthusiasm is required as well as reference photos that will inspire your artistic vision.
If you have painted before in any medium, please bring some examples or photos of your artwork. If you are new to art or pastel painting, please bring photos of art you admire or subject matter that interests you for references.
I will bring a basic assortment of materials - pastel sticks, surfaces to the first class. The variety of pastels and the types of surfaces available is bountiful and will be discussed in class.

The League is excited to offer workroom space for the art of encaustic painting. In an elevated teaching environment, experienced painters will be able to add dimension and depth in their works with the processes taught in these sessions. This class will encourage creativity through the merging of artistic forms using wax melting techniques. Wax, mixed media, recycling segments will all combine to enable the application of artistic movements and features of colors and themes. This will be an opportunity to not only learn, but to ignite your artistic flame!
