Drawing to Painting

This class is designed to help students transition from drawing to painting. The first class meeting will be devoted to preparation, demonstration and practice, followed by eight individual class projects, including landscapes and still lifes. A materials list will be provided upon registration.

Oil Painting Studio

Bring life to your oil paintings or soft pastels using principles of drawing, value, edge control, and color temperature. In this studio class, students will paint the clothed live model and still-life while benefiting from instructor’s demos and individual instruction. Students will sharpen their skill in painting from life. This class is for intermediate and advanced painters. A supply list will be provided upon registration.When: 6/18-8/13 (7 classes)

Contemporary Printmaking
Rita Price
Students will explore the potential of monoprint techniques as an introduction to printmaking. They will build their knowledge to incorporate relief, collage and Xerox transfer processes. Emphasis is placed on individual expression. Beginning and advanced students are welcome as instructor will work to meet individual needs and interests.

Multi-Level Printmaking

Beginning and experienced printmakers are encouraged to develop their work in various print media, including intaglio, relief and some stencil processes, as well as plate lithography. The instructor will work individually with each student. Lab time included.

Drawing

This course will expose students to a variety of drawing techniques and approaches. Working with graphite, charcoal, pen & ink and conte crayon, the class will focus on the fundamental drawing principles of line, shape, value, composition and color while studying still life objects, photographed images, the portrait, the human figure, plein air and printmaking. Students will also learn to draw the figure from a live model and be encouraged to focus on the technical as well as expressive possibilities of their artwork.

Watercolor

Instruction in the art of watercolor painting is geared to all levels. Advanced students are encouraged to continue their development. Drawing skills, color and subject matter will be explored. The layering technique will be taught for those interested. Frequent demonstrations complement individual student attention.

Beginning Watercolor

This class is designed for students with little or no experience who wish to learn to use watercolor paints or pencils. Techniques such as washes, wet-into-wet, dry brush, masking and others will be explored. Students will also learn the basics of color theory, color mixing and composition. All supplies provided—just come and paint!

FRIDAY
Friday Morning Gouache

Painting with gouache is fun and a versatile medium to learn for any painter. Gouache, an opaque watercolor, is a water-based painting material. Painting with gouache is closest to oil painting because of the buttery feel of the paint with the worry of using solvents. Come learn how to paint with gouache using a variety of techniques from translucent washes to bold opaque forms and shapes. Students will paint from life and from personal photos while experimenting with composition, color mixing and personal expression. All levels of painting experience are welcome.

Acrylic Painting

Acrylic paints are the most versatile of all painting mediums. In this class, students will experiment with traditional and contemporary techniques including glazing, color mixing, and creating textures. Students will learn how to organize and control their palettes to get a better handling of the acrylics and the paint’s quick drying time. Acrylic paints are suitable for small or large paintings on canvas, paper or panels. Students will have an opportunity to work from life, from their own photos, and from their sketchbook images.
